Oshkosh 2022 | Vought F4U Corsair The F4U Corsair looks quite distinctive with its gull wings. It also makes a distinctive sound caused by noise from the engine and wing-root air inlets, which earned it the nick-name “Whistling Death” The “bent wings” allowed deck clearance of its large 13′ 4″ propeller. And, the large prop allowed for a R-2800 Double Wasp, 18 cylinder double radial 2250 horsepower engine. It could out fight, out climb, and out run any prop driven enemy aircraft at the time.
