Landscape Portfolio | Storm over the Badlands

Landscape Portfolio | Storm over the Badlands   This image brings the Great Plains to mind.  The Badlands are along the western edge of the Great Plains.  The prairie seems to stretch forever, even on this rolling terrain.  Thunderstorms rumble over the Badlands frequently during the summer months.  In fact, they are one of the trademarks of the Great American Prairie, which ranges from the Rocky Mountains to the Midwest and from Canada to Oklahoma. .  Nothing reminds us more of America more than the Great American Prairie.  For additional information and images, see The Great American Prairie | a 7 Image Story and America the Beautiful | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story    Just as I was about to leave the north entrance of Badlands NP, I noticed the thunderstorm northwest of the park.  I stopped the car and used it as a tripod.  This image was captured by shear luck.  The camera did not have a lightning detector on it.
