Around the House | Mourning Dove Close Portrait

Around the House | Mourning Dove Close Portrait   Mourning Doves make such good bird subjects. They are fairly calm for a bird and the don’t dart around much.  They give you plenty of time to capture a nice image.     Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Around the House | Two Mourning Doves   Mourning Doves seem like they like winter as long as they can find seeds.    For more information and images on using the Nikon 1 V3 for bird photography, see Nikon 1 V3 for Birds | a 7 Image Story.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon 1 V3 Hodgepodge | Morning Dove

Nikon 1 V3 Hodgepodge | Morning Dove

Nikon 1 V3 Hodgepodge | Morning Dove   Morning Doves tend to stick around all winter.  They are beautiful calm birds that are relatively easy to photograph.  An old photography guideline says to always have the eye in focus.  A closely related guideline indicates to almost always show the eye of the critter in the frame.  For more Morning Dove images, see Morning Dove Posing | a 7 Image Story and/or, see Morning Dove Portraits | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story   This image was captured by a simple click through the window at lunch time.  Even birds like this Morning Dove can be challenging to capture without a long, fast lens.  The Nikon 1 V3 with the 70-300mm lens allows for a 810mm effective focal length.  It’s a long, not so fast lens at f5.6, but a very sharp lens.  Of course, it helps if you feed the birds during winter.  Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

The Back Story    Even though this Morning Dove was relatively close to my lens, it still takes a long lens to get up close with birds.

In Search of Snowbirds | Morning Dove    This Morning Dove found a little space on the limb with no snow.  It seemed happy as a clam all puffed up to weather the cold.

The Back Story    Keeping a camera near the window helps improve chances of capturing a quick simple click.  While pouring a second cup of coffee before my next video conference, this scene appeared out the window.  Then, a simple click was easy before going back to the computer.
