Gray Squirrel With snow comes great contrasts with wildlife. The trick on this image was to get below the squirrel and the small pile of snow. Snow pants would have been nice, but as usual, I got wet; just could not wait to put on snow pants to get the shot.
Hidden Grey Squirrel This time of year everything seems to be a shade of green; grass, leaves, water, weeds, etc. Without that little patch of light on his shout, I probably would not have spotted this little critter.
Gray Squirrel Gray Squirrels seem like they are every color but well, gray. This guy was just having a good time in the early morning light. To capture the image without disturbing the gray squirrel’s routine, I used a long lens and stayed very low. It took a long time before he came into the good light.
Grey Squirrel Today was the warmest day of the year thus far; about 70. This squirrel seemed to be smelling the wild flowers near the Fox River. One issue when using the Nikon 1 V1 is that the electronic viewfinder is sometimes a bit small and dark. But, most of the time, it does not matter because the auto-focus is so good. For a good example, look at this shot. I was on my stomach where it was difficult to see through the viewfinder and remain stable for the 810mm telephoto handheld. The auto-focus certainly did its job.
Grey Squirrel in the Woods Today’s walkabout circled through the woods near home. The only critters out tonight were the squirrels; always fun to watch.
Gray Squirrel Easter Sunday and this guy is having a nice nut meal. This Nikon V1 and the 70-300mm are turning out to be a nice combination.
Busy Squirrel The squirrels are busy in the woods too. Today’s walkabout took me through Bliss Woods. It does not feel like Spring yet and the critters must feel the same. Some birds are singing, of course, but only a few squirrels are really active. The Blue Herons are not back yet. They’re usually here by now. Also, the American White Pelicans have not stopped yet. They usually stop on several nearby lakes for about 10 days on their way north at the end of March.
The Bird Feeder Yep, they are almost always at the big bird feeder. They’re on it, under it, around it, but always close.
