Nikon D300 Salad | Sunset Sail This sailboat enjoyed relatively calm winds as it sailed near Point Betsie Lighthouse in northern Michigan, which sometimes sees some pretty dramatic weather. There’s plenty of good clouds, wind, and waves any time of the year. Too get the best views and images, a short hike north up the beach is usually necessary. The Back Story OK, I was at the right place at the right time; no doubt. And, it was a simple click. Why the DC-Nikkor 135mm f2D? Because that was the lens on the camera at the time; with not enough time to go back to the vehicle and change a lens. Sometimes, the best camera is truly the one in your hands. Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Seascape Sunset This image looks toward Maui taken from the northwestern shore of the Big Island along the Kona Coast. Look closely and just beyond the trees lies Maui’s volcano, Haleakalā, (“house of the sun”) rising above the clouds at 10,023 feet. It’s a massive shield volcano that forms more than 75% of Maui. The Back Story My walkabout was a bit late and a bit unusual. Seascapes do not come easy for a Midwesterner. The time just before total darkness has become one of my favorite times to capture images. The Sunday Drive | Into the Sunset Sunsets on a Montana ranch can be fantastic. The Tobacco Root mountains provide the background. Way Cool | Patagonia Lake Patagonia Lake lies just south of Tucson. In the winter, when this image was captured, it was 60ºF. It’s a rather pleasant lake and close enough to Tucson to make a nice day trip. Sunsets aren’t too bad either. See Way Cool | a 7 Image Story for more of my favorite off beat images.
