The Thunderbirds gave us a fantastic performance as usual today at the Rockford AirFest. Last year, the AirFest was cancelled when the military cancelled all military performances do our dysfunctional federal politicians failure to address budget issues. The turnout this year seemed low. The number of static display aircraft was also much lower. After a year off, the show seemed to incur a number of snags causing delays. And, of course, prices seemed to have gone up. Still, it’s a great way to spend a day in the sun.

Thunderbirds: Today would have been the start of the annual Rockford Air Fest. So, it just seemed fitting and proper to show an image from last year’s fest; the Thunderbirds. Perhaps, next year, the flying weather in Wash DC will not be so stormy.

The F-16 Fighting Falcon Demo Team put on a spectacular show for us at the 2007 Rockford Air Fest. After they completed their flight and just before capturing this image, the wall of fire bombing reenactment happen leaving the nice smoke background. One of my most difficult challenges at air shows seems to be getting a decent background for my images.
