Reflections on 2017 | Spartan Executive My second year at the AAA Fly-in ended with a few long exposure images. This image was captured just before the last rays of sunset light faded on the first day of the fly-in. Notice the line of sunset light reflection cutting through the fuselage. Reflections on 2017 | Port Huron Engine The Threshermen’s Reunion takes you back to the early days of the 20th century. This image of a steam engine tractor, which was actually powering a saw mill at the time, was finished like an antique B&W picture and scaled to 4×5, like older cameras. Reflections on 2017 | B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber This B-2, named the Spirit of Arizona, did several flybys at Oshkosh last year during the air show. The B-2 is very stealthy which enables it to penetrate sophisticated anti-aircraft defenses. To evade detection systems, it has reduced acoustic, visual, infrared, and radar signatures. Even at the air show, it was hard to see even a few miles away. It’s very quiet when flying inbound and really very little noise while flying away. Reflections on 2017 | Water Smartweed Sometimes, weeds make great dramatic images. This water smartweed, captured in the shadows at the edge of a small lake, might be one such image. It’s just too beautiful to be considered a weed. This perennial plant, sometimes considered a weed, has a terrestrial form and an aquatic form. It may be an aquatic plant, growing submerged or floating in water bodies such as ponds, streams, and marshes. It may be a terrestrial plant grow in muddy and wet areas as well as moist spots on land like meadows. This plant was captured while kayaking on the fourth of July. Reflections on 2017 | F-86 Sabre Taxiing After the weather improved at the 2nd Annual TBM Avenger Gathering held at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru, IL, the F-86 Sabre got a chance to fly. A few years ago, I briefly shared the pattern with an F-86. Of course, it was moving much faster than I was. Still, I felt honored to share a piece of sky with such an iconic airplane. Reflections on 2017 | a 7 Image Story 2017 was a year like all years, filled with those events which alter and illuminate our time. (Thank you, Walter.) For me, 2017 was a year filled with very little travel; focusing my clicks closer to home. It was a year filled with more event images, particularly aviation events; yet, fewer wildlife photographs. A few decent landscapes somehow emerged as well.
After a hard day’s work, this B-25 got a well deserved rest at a quiet field. In early spring, eleven B-25’s flew from Grimes Field in Urbana, OH to the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH to participate in the 75th Doolittle Raid Anniversary. Later, in early summer, at the 2nd Annual TBM Avenger Gathering held at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru, IL, the F-86 Sabre got a chance to fly.
