Spring Potpourri | White-tailed Birdseed Bandit Usually, it’s the squirrels or raccoons that raids the bird feeder. Even some deer like birdseed. Maybe this yearling was just too curious and had to try a new meal.

Spring Potpourri | One More Snow Even a hearty Canada Goose gets tired of cold and snow. This one seems to be taking the last snow of the season in stride.

Spring Potpourri | Snowy Road Sunset Driving in the snow in April really is not so unusual. Still, finding a unique moment in time to capture a simple click out the windshield doesn’t happen often.

Spring Potpourri | Sandhill Crane A nesting pair of Sandhill Cranes makes their home on a small lake along one of my walkabout trails. Sometimes in early spring, they come out of the thicket into an open area on a sunny day.

Spring Potpourri | Wild Flower Wild flows line my walkabout trail. They are the first of the season. The extension tube turns the 30-110mm lens into a macro lens. And, the macro lens accentuates the late afternoon shadows.

Spring Potpourri | Great Horned Owl Nesting On tonight’s walkabout this Great Horned Owl appeared to be nesting high in a tree along the trail. Thing is; this nest has been used for several years by Red-tailed Hawks. Apparently, Great Horned Owls seldom build their own nests. Instead, they take over nests built by other birds.
Apr 15, 2021 | AF-S 70-300mm f4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR, American Pelican, Nikon 1 V3, Spring Potpourri
Spring Potpourri | American Pelican Landing Gear down, flaps down, cleared to land. It’s a good landing if you can float away from it. The American Pelican’s nine foot wingspan looks pretty impressive when landing. They are truly majestic birds. Their bodies measure up to 5 feet in length, their bills can reach 14 inches, and their wing spans up to 9 feet. For more information about these magnificent birds, see American Pelicans 2019 | a 7 Image Story.
