Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Super Cub Farewell Yep, it’s yours truly trying to act like a bush pilot. The Piper Super Cub, Alaska’s favorite bush plane, makes for great fun flying, particularly for us Midwest flatlanders. It’s a great performing seaplane on straight or amphibious floats.
The Back Story On the weekend before Oshkosh, a small group of pilots ranging from heavy iron pilots to bush pilots, get together for back to the basics float plane flying. This image comes from one of those weekends, a few years ago. No, it’s not a selfie. It’s a simple click from the dock. My brother grabbed my camera and captured this image. See Floatplane Weekend | a 7 Image Story for more information and images. Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Jul 29, 2021 | AF-S 70-300mm f4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR, Nikon 1 V1, Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri, Raven, Yellowstone
Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Raven Ravens tend to hang around the parking areas in Yellowstone so it’s not too hard to capture a few images of them. Ravens are among the smartest of all birds and have accompanied people around the Northern Hemisphere for centuries by following their wagons, sleds, sleighs, and cars looking for a quick meal. Ravens are really quite amazing birds. They can fly over 20,000 feet. They adapt to a very wide variety of habitats including the harsh climate in Yellowstone. They adapt to living around humans quite well. They’ll eat a wide variety of foods. They even befriend wolves while still sharing in the wolves bounty. Yes, amazing birds! For more information and images of wild Yellowstone, see Yellowstone NP Wild | a 7 Image Story.

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Dragonfly My Labor Day walkabout turned out to be a kayak about; this Dragonfly hitched a ride for awhile. Now, I have not been an insect photog and do not have lenses to get those cool insect shots. Still, even with a simple telephoto and a kayak, I was able to capture a decent image of this Dragonfly. For more insect images, see Nikon 1 V3 for Insects | a 7 Image Story.

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Absaroka Range The Absaroka Range as seen through the pass at Bozeman, MT. While hiking through the high desert countryside, this storm grew over the Absaroka Range. Jul 26, 2021 | AF-S 70-300mm f4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR, Michigan, Nikon 1 V1, Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri, Water Lily
Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Lily Pad The white water lily is a perennial plant that tends to form dense colonies. The leaves arise from the lake bottom, several feet deep, on flexible stalks. The leaves are almost round and bright green with a 6 to 12 inches diameter and a slit about a third of the length of the leaf. Leaves usually float on the water’s surface. Flowers arise on separate stalks, have brilliant white petals with yellow centers. The flowers may float or stick above the water. Each fragrant flower opens in the morning and closes before evening.
The Back Story This walkabout was more like a kayak about. This white water lily image was captured in hard light; still it captured the below water stems. Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Jul 25, 2021 | AF-S 70-300mm f4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR, Gecko, Hawaii, Nikon 1 V1, Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri
Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Gold Dust Day Gecko Landscapes are nice; wildlife is better. Problem is; there’s not much wildlife along the Kona Coast unless you get into the water. When stopping for a rest on a mid day walkabout, these Geckos were just playing around. At first, they seemed like a nuisance, but then they became fun to watch. They seem to be curious critters and, of course, they’re naturally cute.
The Back Story This gecko posed on the leaf for a long time. Simple clicks captured many images. Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.
