Fine Art Portfolio | F-22 Raptor

Fine Art Portfolio | F-22 Raptor   The F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation, single seat, twin-engine, all-weather, stealth, top line fighter.  It always gives an impressive performance.  The F-22 Raptor’s stealthy shape makes great contour lines that contrast nicely against the background.

The Back Story  How do you capture a F-22 Raptor taxing?  This image was captured at Oshkosh while laying on my stomach. The 70-300mm zoom lens makes it easy to adjust focal length as the Raptor taxis down the taxiway.  Remember, 125mm with the 2.7 crop factor of the Nikon 1 V3 converts to 338mm.  For the whole story with all images, see Remembering Oshkosh | a 7 Image Story.

Fine Art Portfolio | Point Betsie Light

Fine Art Portfolio | Point Betsie Light   The background dark storm clouds make great contrast against the crashing waves and wave whitecaps.  The lighthouse compliments the drama in the waves and skies.  You can almost feel the wind.

The Back Story  The winds were really brisk for the walk along the beach north of the lighthouse.  After choosing a position, setting up the tripod and keeping still turned out to be more than a little difficult.  Really, it was impossible to keep the tripod from vibrating.  Luckily, there was enough light to keep the shutter speed high.  After repositioning three times, I finally got the right angle on the composition.  Then, I waited until the wind, waves, and clouds lines up.  I shot several 10-12 shot bursts to capture the wave crash at its maximum height.

Fine Art Portfolio | Manistee Light

Fine Art Portfolio | Manistee Light   The shadows and a water over spray along the breakwater as well as the breakwater’s long, sharp lines against the sky provide perspective and depth.  The light stands out even though it’s rather small in the image.

The Back Story  The walk along the beach to the breakwater was nice.  The Manistee Light was basking in midday sun.  A  B&W image will take advantage of the harsh light and sharp shadows.  And, a little under exposure will increase the drama.  Any way you look at it; it’s a nice day to be near the lake with a camera.

Fine Art Portfolio | Milkweed   Milkweeds with sharp angles and smooth end points look good in black & white.  While blowing in the wind, they add so much beauty to a fall walkabout.  This milkweed will soon give up its seeds.

The Back Story  This image was captured with a few simple clicks during my daily walkabout.  Sometimes, you just have to go for artistic. Tonight’s walkabout had such nice light. It hit me to try for a black & white image.  Well, no one would consider me an artist, still it’s my vision.

Fine Art Portfolio | Curious Deer

Fine Art Portfolio | Curious Deer  This curious deer silhouette seemed like an ionic scene of White-tailed Deer in a snow storm.  They were far enough away to feel safe, yet too curious to just leave the area.  White-tailed Deer are a curious lot.  As long as they do not feel threatened, they want to know what’s happening.  Maybe, they were wondering when the spring snows would stop and let spring come onto the land.

The Back Story  This image was captured with a few simple clicks after walking outside into the back yard.  Sometimes the best camera is the one you have in your hands.

Fine Art Portfolio | Fire & Ice   This scene seemed quietly pleasant with shapes and shadows cast over the new fallen snow.  It just appeared while walking along a street.

The Back Story  This image was captured with a simple click.  The P7000 was new to me so I stuffed into my coat pocket before leaving for a walk on the new snow.

Fine Art Portfolio | Pugs on Ice

Fine Art Portfolio | Pugs on Ice

Fine Art Portfolio | Pugs on Ice   The Pugs seemed just a bit irritated that they had to go out in such bad weather.  Pugs love the snow; ice, not so much.  The slipping and sliding, even on the icy grass, put a new meaning to “do your duty.”  They gave me “the look” as they were trying to make it back into the house.  Black and white makes the night look more foreboding than color.

The Back Story  This image was captured late one night after it had rained and turned really cold.  The rain froze and it rained ice pellets.  The pugs were slipping and sliding around.  I was slipping and sliding around.  After slipping on my butt, i got back on my knees just as the  Pugs were trying to back into the house.
